Calgary West Light Rail

The Calgary West Light Rail Transit alignment extends eight kilometers west from the current west end of 7th Avenue downtown to 69th Street S.W. and includes six stations.  The design-build project includes 1.5 kilometers of elevated guideway structure between Shaw Millennium Park and the Bow Trail / Crowchild Trail interchange.  The foundations for the elevated guide way consisted of 2.5-m diameter drilled shafts with rock sockets.  Lachel provided CSL testing and Pulse Echo Testing services and analysis for 15 of the drilled shafts on the project.  Reports addressed shaft integrity and acceptability and provided engineering recommendations.  Several shafts returned CSL test results suggestive of possible concrete anomalies, but concrete integrity was verified using low strain Pulse-Echo Testing method, saving the client the time, and expense of coring the shafts to confirm the presence of sound concrete.
